Northern California Fires - How Can I Help?

Want to Help?

Northern California Fires - How can I help graphicThere are many ways you can help the victims of the Northern California fires. It may be volunteering, donating needed items, or making a contribution to a local charity. We will keep this list up to date and are very thankful for your interest in helping and your generosity of heart.

Responding to the needs of this tragedy will be a long process. What these folks need now may be different than what they need a week from now or months from now. Please check back here for updates or stay in contact with your favorite charity to see what they need.

We strongly encourage donors to carefully research charitable organizations prior to donating to ensure that their donated funds will have the desired result. For additional information and easy-to-use tips on avoiding charity scams following a disaster, please visit the Attorney General's Charities website.

Volunteering

Social workers/counselors: In a tragedy like this, people are also affected emotionally and providing counseling is critical. Trained counselors are needed at Sonoma Valley High School. If you are a licensed social worker or counselor, please call (707) 888-5863.

Donating

At the present time, please consider helping organizations listed under “Contributing.” Due to the constantly changing requirements, it provides the most flexibility to meet the needs of the fire victims and the first responders and volunteers. You may wish to visit an evacuation center near you to see if they have any specific needs. A list of evacuation centers can be found on this website: NorCal Evacuation Sites

Food banks may be able to benefit from contributions of food, but please call first to see what is most needed – it may be better to contribute funds.
