Asm. Jim Wood’s Statement on AB 1054 to Stabilize California’s Utility Market & Support Wildfire Victims & Ratepayers

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO–Today Assemblymember Jim Wood (D-Santa Rosa) voted to support AB 1054, a bill to stabilize the utility markets which acknowledges the importance of ensuring reliable, affordable power to our communities, and facilitates compensation to victims of the 2017-18 wildfires and protects ratepayers.

“The wildfire tragedies that have plagued people throughout our state need our help and they need it now,” said Wood, whose district experienced several of the devastating fires of 2017-18. “We need to, most importantly, make sure victims of the 2017-18 fires are compensated, protect ratepayers and stabilize the utility market, and I’m thankful to Governor Newsom’s leadership and members of the Legislature for the hard work it took to move this legislation forward.”

“This bill is a huge step forward, and there is more we can do to save lives and protect people from becoming victims of future fires,” said Wood. “My work will continue to focus on prevention efforts such as the program developed in AB 38 to help homeowners harden their homes and property, and am also committed to addressing the growing crisis of non-renewals of homeowner’s insurance.”
