More financial assistance available through Covered California
The past 18 months have been an unprecedented time of challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic, wildfires and the resulting impact on people's health and employment have increased the importance of having health care coverage, whether it's for preventive care, medical treatment or accessing mental health services.
The federal American Rescue Plan - passed by Congress - provides new and expanded financial help to consumers, reducing the cost of health insurance to historically low levels. I want the people I represent in Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinty, Mendocino and Sonoma counties to know that there are expanded and generous subsidies available to more people - including middle-income consumers - to purchase quality health care coverage through Covered California.
If you qualified for unemployment this past year, you may be able to get a high-quality plan for as little as $1 per month, and currently insured consumers could save hundreds of dollars per month on their coverage if they switch to a plan from Covered California.
Dependents up to age 26 can stay on your coverage, which is so important as students return to college and younger adult family members who may not have access to coverage.
Visit Covered California's website and find out just how affordable coverage can be with this new and expanded financial assistance. You can use their easy-to-use calculator to see how much these expanded subsidies can save you and your family. The savings expire at the end of 2022, so the sooner you sign up, the sooner you can start saving and be covered.
