(Sacramento) – At a state capitol news conference to introduce a package of legislation to combat the opioid epidemic, Assemblymember Jim Wood (D-Healdsburg), spoke about the importance of using multiple strategies to decrease the number of opioid deaths. “As a healthcare provider and an Assemblymember who represents two counties in California, Humboldt and Mendocino, with opioid prescription death rates that are two to three times higher than the national average, I strongly believe we need to do more,” said Assemblymember Wood. “We must attack this crisis on many fronts – prevention, treatment and by carefully controlling the prescribing process.” To learn more about how California is fighting the opioid epidemic, watch this Assembly Access video.
